Work Experience Wonders
The majority of our Year 10 students have been taking part in exciting work experience placements. This year, our highest number of students ever have spent the week with employers learning about the world of work, future career opportunities and gaining important employability skills. Students have worked in a huge range of different sectors, with the top sectors including education, construction, manufacturing, sports/fitness and food and drink.
A record number of organisations have hosted our students, including some employers taking multiple students such as Unipres, Sunderland College, Nissan, Rolls Royce, MPCT, Expert Technologies Group, Learning Curve, Resources NE and many more. We have already received feedback from many employers praising our students, including one employer on day two saying that they were ‘a credit to the school’. Students have been involved in all different activities both in the local area and beyond. At Southmoor, we strongly believe that work experience is an essential part of a young person’s education and we are delighted to give our students the opportunity to spend a week with an employer. For those students that weren’t on placement there was a chance to take part in our Enterprise Challenge in school as well as opportunity to help out of the ‘Back on the Map’ community garden project.
