Southmoor Scholars Unravel Political Dilemmas
Dr Elizabeth Khan, Associate Professor in Political Theory, Durham University spoke to our scholars about political dilemmas on Monday. Scholars learnt about a range of political approaches and theories from the concept of utilitarianism: maximizing happiness by the greatest happiness for the greatest number to theory of deontology prioritizing freedom before welfare.
Dr Khan challenged our scholars with a series of dilemmas and thought experiments to expose their moral intuitions. Students shared their thoughts and debated on several topics – it was brilliant to see their arguments develop and confidence grow as so many scholars took the opportunity to share their thoughts. Thank you to Dr Khan and Durham University for a thought-provoking session.
