Year Groups
Each year group at Southmoor Academy is assigned their very own dedicated Year Leader. The Year Leaders are the first point of call beyond form group teachers for problems or questions our students may have. Year Leaders are also responsible for meeting parents and carers to discuss any issues their child may be having and are actively involved in the pastoral support of their assigned year group. Each Year Leader and their support will remain with their year group throughout their time at Southmoor. This means your Year Leader in Year 7 will remain your Year Leader all the way through to Year 11.
The Year Leaders for each year group are:
Year Group | Year Leader |
Year 7 | Ms. Hudson |
Year 8 | Miss. Fletcher |
Year 9 | Mr. Kavanagh (Acting) |
Year 10 | Mr. Lain |
Year 11 | Mrs. Roddam |
The House System
Every student who attends Southmoor Academy is a member of a ‘house’. The houses are made up of all students from Year 7 right up to Year 13. Each student is given a badge of the house they represent during their time at the school. House badges are part of the Southmoor Academy’s uniform and must be displayed on the lapel of the blazer of every student. A student will remain within the same house from year to year.
Each House at Southmoor Academy is named for a mythological figure. The four houses are: Griffin, Phoenix, Pegasus & Triton.
Houses are intended to form a bond between pupils beyond their year groups and also promote and celebrate success. When a student makes excellent progress in their development, shows excellent habits of behaviour or learning, or makes a positive contribution to the school and its wider community, they will also help their House gain greater recognition. It is this spirit of healthy competition between houses that we hope will promote a positive sense of community within our school.
