Head in the Clouds with the CCF
Three Southmoor Academy CCF cadets have just completed their first flight in the Viking glider at RAF Topcliffe in North Yorkshire. The Viking, which is launched into the air using only a winch, is but one of the many RAF aircraft that cadets can fly in.
Thomas of Year 10 said: “This was absolutely the best thing I’ve ever done, it was an experience like no other and I can’t wait to go again!”.
Flying and Gliding is unique to the RAF Air Cadets, with opportunities for flight available throughout the year alongside amazing exclusive experiences such as archery, camps, mountain biking and paddlesport.
Whilst the activities are exclusive, membership isn’t – the CCF is open to all Southmoor pupils aged 12+ and will soon open its doors for a new intake, be sure to look out for more information soon!
If you’d like to learn more in the meantime, come along to the CCF Section HQ in Southmoor House from 15:35 on a Monday afternoon.
