UK Parliament Outreach
We were delighted to welcome into school Gillian Bell, Senior Education & Engagement Officer from UK Parliament. Gillian presented to all of our Year 7 and 9 students information about how the UK Parliament works, the difference between Parliament and Government, and what it means to live in a democratic society. Gillian also gave students the opportunity to think about how some recent laws affect them as young people, such as the tax on certain sugary drinks, or the law that bans smoking in private cars where children are present. The students also had the chance to think about what laws they would like to change or which new laws they would like to bring in. Gillian discussed the importance of voting and how we live in a society where we have the opportunity to vote from the age of 18 onwards. The presentation complimented our Personal Development curriculum where students learn about Parliament and Government to prepare them for the future.
