COVID-19 INFORMATION UPDATE

We’ve been asked to test all students for COVID-19 three times, with a gap of three to five days between each test. In order to administer the tests we need to stagger the start dates of students during that first week.

The government guidance on testing says this: Testing is voluntary, but those who are eligible for tests are strongly encouraged to participate to reduce the risk of transmission within schools and colleges.
Years 7 and 8 will be tested on their first day back. For all other years, we will contact you with a time and date for your child to come in for testing before their first day back at school. After the initial programme of three tests in school, students will be provided with two rapid tests to use each week at home. Students who have not taken the three COVID-19 tests in school will not qualify for home testing kits.
Students will be in their year group bubbles as in the autumn term, and many of the other arrangements will remain the same. However, the government have now required that pupils wear masks not only in communal areas and corridors, but also in classrooms. This will be reviewed at Easter, but in the meantime, please ensure your child comes to school with a mask.
Pupils who are not attending on-site in the weeks commencing from Monday 4th January will receive remote education.

What is a vulnerable pupil or critical worker?
Southmoor Academy will only be open to the following groups of pupils from Tuesday 5th January.
Vulnerable pupils are those who:
- Are assessed as being in need, including those with a child in need plan or child protection plan
- Are looked after by the local authority
- Have an education, health and care (EHC) plan
- Have been assessed as otherwise vulnerable by the school or LA, including children who:
- Are on the edge of receiving support from children’s social care services
- Are adopted
- Are at risk of becoming NEET (‘not in employment, education or training’)
- Are living in temporary accommodation
- Are young carers
Critical workers are those who work in:
- Health and social care
- Education and childcare
- Key public services (including the justice system, religious staff, charities delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting)
- Local and national government (those who are involved in delivering the coronavirus response or essential public services)
- Food and other necessary goods
- Public safety and national security
- Transport
- Utilities, communication and financial services
