Diabetes Award
We are delighted that Diabetes UK have chosen us for a “Good Diabetes Care in School Award.” This is because the school has demonstrated excellent care and support for its students with Type 1 Diabetes. The school has ensured that none of these students are excluded from any part of the school curriculum and are not in any way inhibited or held back from reaching their potential because of their condition.
School staff liaise closely with students, parents and healthcare professionals to ensure that they have the best quality of care and have built up excellent relationships with these students, ensuring that they feel happy and confident that their needs are being met in school.
Mr. Alan Jackman, Secretary and Treasurer of the Sunderland Branch of Diabetes UK came into school to present the award. Our diabetic students all spoke openly about how we had supported them during their time at Southmoor. Laura Stubbs ,who is in Year 12, told us that the good care and support she received in the lower school had had an impact on her decision to stay at Southmoor to attend Sixth Form.
