Building Culture
Last Friday morning, six Year 9 students took part in a really exciting opportunity to go and visit the new Culture House development taking place in the centre of Sunderland. Kier Group are constructing this amazing new building, which will be a multimillion pound four floor venue on Keel Square which is due to open to the public this Autumn. It will be home to the city library and will provide spaces for events, shows and exhibitions. As part of the Design Engineer Construct programme in Year 9, Kier Group are going to be working with our Year 9 students even more moving forward to support in the classroom and with other exciting visits.
As part of this link, several winners of the first term architectural project had the opportunity to meet the staff at Kier Group who are building this new addition to Sunderland city centre. The students also had a tour of the site as it is so far, including going up onto the roof, and during the visit they also met with Lewis Atkinson MP, the MP for Sunderland Central, and Michael Mordey, Leader of Sunderland City Council & former student of Southmoor. We look forward to visiting Kier’s other development very close by which is the new Eye Hospital and to welcoming representatives from Kier into school in the near future.
