An Introduction to Life at Southmoor Academy
Below you’ll find some explanations of all sorts of the important things you’ll need to know about starting at Sandhill. First of all watch our special promotional video where our students tell you all about what life at Southmoor is like as we look at lessons across a typical day of learning.

Getting the Best Outcomes for Our Students
At Southmoor we pride ourselves on giving every student the opportunity to achieve their best. Aspiration is one of our highest priorities and we place a lot of importance in helping pupils recognise what they are capable of as well as unlocking their full potential. This not only means good results but also fostering a sense of direction in our students. Head of School, Mr. Wright, explains more about aspirations at Southmoor in the video below.
Our results speak for themselves. At A-Level we’ve had great success over many years of offering Key Stage 5 subjects to our students. Pupils who started in Year 7 over the last fifteen years are now either starting bright careers in some incredible fields or currently studying at some truly amazing destinations at the UK’s top universities, many of which form part of the prestigious Russell Group, the gold standard in education across the UK..
We are proud of the fact that growing numbers of our pupils are reaching the academic pinnacle of higher educational providers by achieving places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Many, many others of our pupils go on to study at such highly esteemed providers such as Durham, Newcastle, York, Edinburgh and other Universities across the whole country. Not only this but higher apprenticeships are becoming ever popular amongst our pupils and we are glad to say that many of them are pursuing some truly exciting careers as advanced apprentices.
